Experience

Product Designer

Scenery

San Francisco, California
2024

Introduced to the project by my former manager from Final Cut Pro X, I worked with marketing, engineering, product, and QA teams to take bugs and ideas from tickets to new features. I developed complex web application interfaces for an in-browser video editor that allowed for real-time collaboration. I worked closely with marketing and customer experience to ensure the long term success of the product and specific features. The company has since been acquired by Adobe.

  • Worked on UI changes and improvements within the video editor, including transitions, the timeline, AI Assist, social safe areas, multi-channel audio, and more.
  • Organized the company's Figma file system and organization to improve usability, smooth communication between design and development, implement versioning, and set the team up with a centralized component-based design system.
  • Designed new features that greatly improved user retention, including an onboarding NUX, the implementation of free trials, a mobile upload option, and using AI to make numerous automatic rough-cuts of source footage to greatly reduce editing time.

Head of Design

QOMPLX

Remote
2021 - 2023

I worked with all other department heads on the product side of the company managing the process of product design and development from idea to implementation. I reported to and directly collaborated with the General Manager of the company to oversee all product developments and changes within the company's software suite. Managed the design team and facilitated the process of feature handoff between design and engineering.

  • Oversaw the design and development of all new features and bug fixes for all SaaS products, including attack surface monitoring, Managed Detection and Response, Identity and Privilege Assurance, and more.
  • Brought in to replace a previous design team; independently took over the product design workload, brought the project ahead of schedule, and later hired, onboarded, and managed a new designer to expand capacity.
  • Introduced "ride-alongs" with developers during frontend implementation, eliminating slow back-and-forth handoffs and significantly accelerating design-to-dev workflows. Improved cross-functional collaboration and built stronger relationships between design and engineering.

Innovation Designer

QOMPLX

Remote
2021

I started on the R&D team, working with talented engineers to build proof-of-concepts of new hacking tools. When the previous product design team left, I expanded from R&D to our entire suite of products as the sole product designer at the company. While in this role, I also filled in gaps in the company when needed, conducting a pen test, writing up reports, and assisting other teams.

  • Partnered directly with engineers to translate advanced hacking concepts into polished, user-facing proof of concepts for new cybersecurity tools.
  • Attended DEFCON 29 to help two of my coworkers create and give a presentation about PunkSpider, a tool that automatically scans and fuzzes public URLs for vulnerabilities.
  • Helped develop system for delivering responsible disclosures at a massive scale.

Interface Design Intern

Apple

Remote
2020

I worked on the Pro Video Apps design team doing visual interface design and human interaction design for unreleased functionality in Final Cut Pro X. During my time there, I also designed a new internal tool for the team to use that facilitated the design thinking workflow, won a company-wide intern contest with a team of other interns, and proposed an idea that has since been patented.

  • I worked across multiple teams to research and develop new features for Apple products in software and services.
  • I used industry-standard design tools to create high-fidelity mockups.
  • I presented my designs to a variety of teams around the company and discussed the potential of future products in a virtual conference call with Eddy Cue.

Product Designer

Crosstown LA

Los Angeles, California
2019 - 2020

Crosstown is a non-profit focused on data-driven journalism. I lead a team of designers to create content for articles, posts, and newsletters on crime, traffic, and air quality in Los Angeles.

  • I helped Crosstown shift to a more modern, design-oriented company by creating their new style of digital illustrations and data visualizations for stories and social media. We used Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, WordPress, SurveyMonkey, and more to create compelling graphics and push them to our audience.
  • I was in charge of onboarding all new designers and managing day-to-day design and intel operations. This included distributing workload among designers, facilitating communication between departments, and improving the company’s overall workflow.
  • I planned and launched new ways for Crosstown to gather user data and develop/test new products in an increasingly digital and visual world of journalism.

Creative Technologist Intern

Los Angeles Times

El Segundo, California
2019

I worked on the Creative Technology team to research, design, and develop a website for the department to showcase their internship program and attract future applicants and partnerships.

  • I worked with leads and creative directors to develop a clear vision, modern design, and purpose for the website.
  • I wrote the website from scratch with HTML and CSS using the San Diego Union Tribune and the Los Angeles Times (unlaunched at the time) rebrand as references for the design to remain on-brand.
  • I used Vue.js and JavaScript to set up a Google Sheet as a backend, allowing Cal Times employees to add/edit information on projects and update team members after I left.
